The hand-winding Marine 1932 is the seventh OMEGA family member of the Museum Collection. In 1932 Omega introduced a waterproof wristwatch based upon Swiss patent CH 146310 granted to Louis Alix of Geneva. This watch was called the Omega Marine and given the Omega reference number 679. The Omega Marine was the first true dive watch; the first watch specifically tested and qualified for diving.
In 1932, Omega introduced the Marine, a watch designed to withstand the pressures of deep-sea exploration. What set the Marine apart was its innovative case construction, featuring a hermetically sealed design that protected the movement from water ingress.
The water had a temperature of about 5 C. After emerging after 30 minutes cases remained hermetic, and the movement of the watches worked without any problems. Omega Marine simultaneously underwent a test of rapid temperature change, water resistance and resistance to higher pressure.
